Steps to Register Database Firewall with Audit Vault Server

In this article, we’ll walk through the step-by-step procedure to register a Database Firewall (DF) with the Audit Vault Server (AVS). This integration helps you centralize auditing and enhance database security by connecting your Database Firewall with Oracle Audit Vault.

Step 1: Log in to the Audit Vault Server Console

1. Open the Audit Vault Server Console in your browser and log in using the ADMIN user credentials.

2. Once logged in, navigate through the following path: Settings → Security → Certificate → Server Certificate
  • Here, you’ll find the Server Certificate for your Audit Vault Server.
  • Copy this Server Certificate, as it will be required when configuring the Database Firewall.

Step 2: Access the Database Firewall Server

1. Connect to the Database Firewall Server and log in with the SUPPORT operating system (OS) user account.
2. Create a new file in the directory specified for storing certificates.
3. Paste the Server Certificate (copied from the Audit Vault Server) into this file and save it.

This step ensures that the Database Firewall recognizes and trusts the Audit Vault Server during the registration process.

Step 3: Configure the Audit Vault Server Connection

Switch to the ROOT OS user on the Database Firewall Server.
1. Navigate to the directory where the configuration script is located.
2. Run the config-avs script as shown below:

Once completed, the Database Firewall will be ready for registration.

Step 4: Register the Database Firewall in the Audit Vault Console

1. Go back to the Audit Vault Web Console.
2. From the main dashboard, click on the Database Firewalls tab.
3. Click the Register button to begin the registration process.

4. Enter the following information and click Register to save the configuration.

Step 5: Verify the Registration Status

  • After registration, the Database Firewall will appear in the list within the Audit Vault Console.
  • If the setup was successful, the status of the Firewall will be displayed as UP.

This confirms that the Database Firewall has been successfully registered with the Audit Vault Server and is now communicating properly.
